Lakehead Women's Volleyball is pleased to announce that former Australian and Canadian National Team Head Coach and Professional Head Coach, Mr. Stelio DeRocco will be the head instructor for the first ever Sept, 12th Adult Volleyball Camp held at LU's CJ Sanders Field House.
The first ever camp of its kind is a great venue for both senior players and local coaches to work directly with Stelio to enhance their skills, see the newest international techniques, and learn from the best on what and how to teach.
"Stelio's credentials, are impressive. He has been a mentor for me from the day I met him. From a former national team player to coaching around the world with 2 National teams, and many professional teams, he easily boasts the experience to make all of us better. My international career started with Stelio. He is a motivator, knowledgeable and brings amazing energy to the practice court. We are so honored to have him commit to helping us here in Thunder Bay at Lakehead University. Coaches can register on line but hurry as spots will be limited. Coaches can register to participate, or take notes and learn from the sidelines. The second session ( Sept. 19th) will be run by myself helping coaches learn more about rotations and specific offensive and defensive systems." Chris Green.
Stelio has done it all:
2009-2010. Head Coach CVM Tomis Constanta, Romania
Romanian Cup Winners
2008- 2009. Head Coach CVM Tomis Constanta, Romania.

2008-2007. Head Coach CVM Tomis Constanta, Romania.

2007-2006 Head Coach of Tonno Callipo of Vibo Valentia, Italy.
A1 Men's Division
2000-2006: Head Coach of Team Canada Men's Volleyball.
Continuously ranked in the Top 10 in the World. We had best ever
performances in 2003 Norceca Championships beating Cuba 3-2 in Mexico to
Qualify for the 2003 World Cup in Japan, where we also had a best ever
performance finishing tied for 6th place with Korea. Without the World
League the team has always maintained not only a consistent World ranking,
but also a very fierce and competitive team. My many duties with the
National Team saw me overlook all developmental programs from youth, junior
and FISU teams. I also started an A2 senior team, where we slowly over the
years integrated new up and coming players to the Senior Team. I am very
proud of the fact that we have been able to keep many of our top players
with our program for many years and have helped many a players land very
successful contracts in European Leagues.
Also responsible for daily management of team needs, from budget
coordinating, planning, over view all developmental programs, and manage the
Integrated Support Teams. Represented Volleyball Canada at many Fundraising
or Marketing events.
2003-2004: Member of the Canadian Government Coaching Implementation Group
2000- was appointed as interim coach for Gioia del Colle Bari, from Jan to
end of April 2000.
1996-2000: Head Coach of Australian Men's National Team:
This has to be one of the greatest moments in my coaching career, not only
for going to the Olympic games, it was taking a country that had very little
volleyball history and culture, to become a Top 8 team in the World, with an
8th place finish at the Sydney Olympics. It was special working in an
environment that was very professional, with so much to offer and players
that were willing to become the best they have ever been. My duties were not
only the day-to-day operations of the team; it also included the many
development programs and the creation of a National League in Australia. We
also became the number two team in the Asian zone.
Also responsible for daily management of team needs, from budget
coordinating, planning, over view all developmental programs, and manage
performance enhancement team.
1995-1996: Head Coach Com Cavi Napoli Men's volleyball team in Italian
first division
1990-1995: Head Coach Gabeca Montichiari Men's Volleyball team in Italian
first division. The team went on to win Two European Cup of Cup
Championships (1991-1993)
This was an exceptional start to my coaching career, where I dealt with
multi-million dollar sponsors and had the pleasure of coaching some of the
best players in the World.
1989-1990: Head Coach of Team Manitoba Men's Team for the Western Canada
games. We won the Gold Medal.
1980-88: Played professionally in Bologna, First division. Where we won the
Italian Cup 1983. In 1984/85 won the Italian Championship. The Gazzetta
Dello Sport named me the best player in the Italian League in 1985. European
Cup of Cup Champions 1986.
1977-1980/1984-1985: I was a member of the Canadian Men's National Team
International Events: World Championships 1978,1998,2002. Head Coach in 2000
Sydney OLYMPIC Games. 5 Norceca Championships. 2 Pan American Games, 2
America's Cup, One World League, One World Cup, One Grand Champions and 2
Asian Championships.
