The Lakehead University Thunderwolves Golf Team leaves Sunday for Ottawa to participate in the OUA Championships; to be held Monday and Tuesday at the historic Royal Ottawa Golf Club.
This will be the Wolves first-ever participation at the OUA Championships and Lakehead will tee off against 11 teams; Carleton, Guelph, Laurentian, Laurier, McMaster, Ottawa, Queen’s, Toronto, Waterloo, Western, and Windsor. The Waterloo Warriors are two-time defending OUA champions.
The Thunderwolves consist of Cory Southon, Aaron Pakylak, David Lai, Dan Anttila, and Captain Andrew Scavarelli. Scavarelli has second and tenth place finishes in the two OUA tournaments he played at this season and is 14th in the provincial all star points standings; despite playing less than half the tournaments of the competition.
Coach Barry Caland will be traveling with the team as Coach Hank Wilke can’t make the trip due to prior work commitments. Caland said he and the team are looking forward to the championships. “Coming off their third place finish at their last tourney and a week of hard work; the team is ready for the OUA championships. On a personal not, since this is my first trip with the team, I hope I can give the guys what I have learned from tournaments played across Canada and I am really looking forward to the team perform to its potential. I also hope that Andrew Scavarelli can have a great tournament and become either a First or Second Team OUA All Star; which would be quite an accomplishment.”
