Lakehead Thunderwolves Athletes of the Week
Lakehead Athletics is pleased to name women’s wrestler Aislynn Torfason and men’s hockey player Brock McPherson as this week’s Thunderwolves Athletes of the Week.
Aislynn Torfason, 63 kg, W Wrestling
Fresh off her experience wrestling for Canada at the Junior Pan Ams last month at Guadalajara, Mexico, Torfason wrestling to a second place finish at the Greater Toronto Open at Ajax, Ontario, on Saturday. A sophomore from Winnipeg, Torfason looks poised to continue her development as a wrestler after her strong bronze medal result at last season’s OUA Championships.
Brock McPherson, Forward, M Hockey
A senior from Brampton, Ontario, McPherson had a monster five-goal weekend for the Thunderwolves as they swept their two-game home series with the Toronto Varsity Blues. On Friday, McPherson scored four times and added an assist on the game-winning goal as the Wolves won 7-6. On Saturday, McPherson opened scoring with a first period buzzer-beating snipe on the powerplay, kickstarting his team’s offence in a 5-1 victory. Through 12 conference games, McPherson has 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points – tops in the OUA.
