Thunderwolves’ Crawford and Caria earned ATOW honours

Lakehead Athletics is pleased to recognized women’s Nordic skier Anna
Crawford and men’s hockey forward Matt Caria as the Thunderwolves Athletes of
the Week for the week ending January 31, 2010.
Anna Crawford, Women’s Nordic Skiing
A two-time
all-Canadian, senior skier Crawford (Lake George, New York) has overcome
offseason injuries to start her 2010 season on a positive note. Last weekend at
the Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadian XC Ski Championship, at Ottawa,
Crawford reminded her OUA rivals that she is both a provincial and national
contender by finishing third overall among conference competitors in both the 5
km skate event (sixth overall) and the 15km classic mass start (seventh
overall).
Matt Caria, Forward, Men’s Hockey
A freshman
from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Caria registered one goal and four assists as
the Thunderwolves men’s hockey team swept divisional rivals the Western
Mustangs to move into a tie for first place in the OUA West. Friday, Caria
scored once and added an assist to spark LU’s 4-0 shutout of the ‘Stangs before
adding three assists to his weekend tally as the ‘Wolves beat UWO 8-5 on
Saturday. Caria has built an eight-game conference point streak since joining
the Thunderwolves program and has four goals, 12 assists during that span.
