The Ontario Government announced that starting September 22, 2021, they will require patrons of our facilities to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination status to gain access. Paired with Lakehead University’s Vaccination Policy, we wanted to provide students, members and community visitors some general answers to how these policies will be implemented.  Still have questions? What changes are happening on September 22nd and how will it affect my Lakehead Athletics Membership? 

As of September 22, 2021, the Ontario Government requires all Ontarians to be fully vaccinated (two doses plus 14 days) and provide their proof of vaccination as well as proof of identity (such a driver’s licence or health card) in order to access any athletics facility in Ontario. 

Is Lakehead Athletics going to require proof of vaccination status for entry into the facility? 

Yes. As of September 22, 2021, members will need to be fully vaccinated in order to access any athletics or recreational facility in Ontario.  

I’m <visiting/a spectator/not working out/etc>; am I required to follow the policies?

Yes, everyone visiting Lakehead Athletics and the Lakehead University Campus must follow all policies.

What qualifies as “fully vaccinated”? 

In order to be considered fully vaccinated, a member must have received their full series of vaccine doses, and 14 days must have elapsed since the last dose. 

What documentation is required for entry? 

If working out you will require your valid Membership ID (through LakeheadMOVE, student card or keytag), and one of the following options:

  • Fully Vaccinated Individuals (full series of vaccine doses + 14 days)
    • Proof of final vaccine receipt – As of Jan 4, our facility will be required the enhanced Ontario Vaccine Receipt with QR Code to enter our facilities.
    • Photo ID
    • An approved COVID self screening badge through Lakehead MobileSafety App
  • Medical Exemption
    • Proof of Medical Exemption must be provided through the use of the Ontario Vaccine Receipt with QR Code to enter our facilities.
    • Photo ID
    • Proof of negative covid rapid test
    • An approved Covid badge through Lakehead MobileSafety App
  • Under 12 years of age

Once I show proof of being fully vaccinated will I need to show it each time?

If you are a fully vaccinated student or member, we will mark on your profile proof of vaccination has been seen. However, we do reserve the right to perform spot-checks to confirm your vaccination so users should have access to their vaccination proof at all times while in the facilities.  Those who are not a student or member will be required to show proof of vaccination for each visit.

If I do not meet the vaccination requirements will you put my account on hold? 

Any paid memberships requiring a hold on specifically due to vaccination policies will be granted one month to meet the requirements.  Should you be unable to return at that time, a prorated refund minus a $25 administration fee will be completed.

What do you require for people who cannot be vaccinated? 

The only exemptions permitted to enter are for unvaccinated people with medical exemptions and people under 12 years old. Individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical exemptions will be required to show their enhanced Ontario Vaccine Receipt with QR Code.

What is required for proof of vaccination? 

As of Jan 4, our facility will be required the enhanced Ontario Vaccine Receipt with QR Code to enter our facilities. Vaccine receipts are available in PDF form to be downloaded or printed to your computer, phone or tablet. Individuals who received their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine out of province/country should contact Thunder Bay District Health Unit to record their information and receive proper documentation. Both proof of identity along with proof of vaccination will be required. Individuals can provide proof of immunization by downloading or printing their vaccine receipt from the provincial booking portal, or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900. 

What if I don’t have a phone or a computer? 

Ontario will develop and provide additional tools to improve user experience, efficiency and business supports in the coming weeks, including establishing alternative tools for people with no email, health card or ID. 

What if I don’t want to disclose my vaccination status? 

It is the discretion of the individual to determine whether they would like to disclose their vaccination status. Should they make the decision not to divulge this information, they will not be permitted to access to the Lakehead University Campus, specifically Lakehead Athletics. 

Will Lakehead Athletics employees be fully vaccinated? 

All individuals visiting Lakehead University’s campus, must follow the same policies.

Does a previous COVID-19 infection allow you access to the facility? 

No, a previous infection is not a substitute for being fully vaccinated.

How long will the vaccination requirements be in place? 

Lakehead Athletics will continue to follow both the Lakehead University’s and the Ontario Government’s policies until instructed otherwise.

Will a recent negative test be sufficient to gain access if I am unvaccinated? 

No, the above requirements will be necessary to visit the Lakehead Athletics facility.
