Track & Field team’s smaller contingent competes in Winnipeg

| News, Track & Field

Lakehead’s track & field team sent a contingent of runners to the University of Manitoba Bison Classic this weekend, with one Thunderwolves runner, Will McDonough, picking up a first-place finish. Lakehead sent primarily sprinters to the meet, with a limited number of distance runners also attending.

“It was a solid weekend for our athletes,” Thunderwolves coach Kip Sigsworth said. “Still lots to work on, but there were signs of improvement this weekend.”

Will McDonough won the men’s 1000m with a time of 2:32.82. Other participants of note include Braedan Prochnicki, who placed 4th in the men’s 60m with a time of 7.05, and Derek Patterson, who placed 6th in the men’s 1500m with a time of 4:05.51.

The Thunderwolves’ track & field team is again on the road next weekend, with most athletes going to a meet in Superior, Wisconsin, and a smaller group going to Boston, Massachusetts.

“We only have one more competition before OUA Championships,” Sigsworth said, “so next weekend will be the final chance to work things out.”
