| News, Volleyball (W)

New coach brings enthusiasm and experience

June 27, 2023 – For Immediate Release

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves have selected Hayden Nichol to be the new head coach of the Women’s Volleyball team.

Nichol most recently served as head coach with the Keyano College Huskies women’s volleyball team in Alberta.

He has seven years of coaching experience at competitive levels, including time with the OUA’s Guelph Gryphons, German professional team Schwarz-WeiB-Erfurt, and the Head Coach of both men’s and women’s teams at Holland College.

“I am extremely grateful to be taking on the role of Women’s Volleyball Head Coach at Lakehead University. Being a Head Coach in the OUA was my ultimate goal when I first started coaching and I am thrilled to get the chance to do so at an institution that is so strong from an academic and athletic perspective. I am hungry to get started on working towards my goal of making this program a playoff contender every single season. The current squad is full of talent; I cannot wait to get to Thunder Bay and get started working with a group I have heard so many positive things about!”

Nichol will take charge following Charlotte Sider’s decision to step down as the head coach at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

“We’re thrilled to have Hayden joining the Thunderwolves,” says Tom Warden, Lakehead University’s Athletics Director.
Lakehead University went through a thorough recruitment process in choosing Nichol. Warden is confident that he will help the Women’s Volleyball team be successful for years to come.

“He brings enthusiasm and experience in both college and the OUA. His history of success and development as a coach will be an asset to our volleyball program, our student athletes and the community of Thunder Bay .”
