Track & field to compete at University of Manitoba Bison Classic

| News, Track & Field

Lakehead’s track & field team heads to Winnipeg this weekend for the University of Manitoba Bison Classic. The meet will feature most on the CanWest conference schools, and will have more competitive fields this year as many schools are using it to preview the facility. The University of Manitoba is set to host the national USPORTS championships in early March.

“The Max Bell Centre track is an excellent venue,” Thunderwolves head coach Kip Sigsworth says, “and, based on preliminary entries, it looks like this year’s Bison Classic will be one of the more competitive in the last several years.”

The Thunderwolves attending the meet will primarily be sprinters, with a few distance runners also making the trip to Winnipeg.

Athletes to watch include Braeden Prochnicki in the men’s 60m, Tia Lampo in the Women’s 300m, and Will McDonough in the Men’s 1000m.

“The goal this weekend is to be better,” Sigsworth says, “to clean up some of the mistakes that we made last weekend, and to compete to the best of our abilities. If we do that, the times will take care of themselves.”
