Carleton and Ottawa Enter the Thunderdome

The Thunderwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready to compete this weekend against the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees in the Thunderdome.

Women’s Basketball (5-1)

Carleton (7-0) is first in the OUA East and ranked 4th in the U SPORTS Top Ten. Alyssa Cerino has the highest field goal percentage (62%) in the OUA alongside her teammate Heather Lindsay (54%). Carleton is one of the highest scoring teams in the league, winning by double digits in every game they have played.

Ottawa (3-4) is fifth in the East and just split this past weekend, taking down Western (52-39) and losing to Windsor (49-45).

“We have two very tough teams coming to the Thunderdome this weekend. In my mind Carleton is the #1 team in the country. They have major size, skill and speed in all positions. They have a great bench and they have the best defense in the country. Ottawa has been playing stifling defense of late and have one of the biggest posts in the country. Both teams play tough for 40 minutes and will be a great challenge for us this weekend”. – Coach Jon Kreiner

The Thunderwolves are currently tied for first in the OUA West with a record of 5-1 and Leashja Grant still leads the league averaging 22 points, 12 rebounds.

Men’s Basketball (0-6)

Both Carleton (1st) and Ottawa (9th) are nationally ranked and are the top two teams in the OUA East. Carleton (7-0) is undefeated while Ottawa is 5-2 with their losses coming from Laurier and Carleton.

Carleton’s Eddie Ekiyor is one of the leagues top rebounders, averaging 11 per game and shooting 63% from the field. Ekiyor recorded three consecutive double-doubles against Ottawa, Windsor, and Western last week.

“Great opportunity to measure up against the most successful dynasty in college basketball on Friday against Carleton. Ottawa will also be tough and in recent years have been very close to Carleton which says a lot about them and their program. We’ll have to player harder, smarter and execute better then both teams if we want to win.” – Coach Manny Furtado

These are the last home games in the Thunderdome before Christmas break and the New Year.
