ActiveU Staff Positions

Applications: ActiveU Camps are currently accepting applications for Camp Counsellors to join our team for this summer! Preference is given to candidates who meet Lakehead Work Study eligibility criteria.

Description: ActiveU provides programming for children and youth based on hands-on learning and sport. This includes camps, birthdays, school board programming, and special events. In this position, your main responsibilities include day to day camp operations, and facilitation of all other ActiveU programming. Hourly  wage is 14.25/hour.

Qualifications include:

  • Time management skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Experience working with children is an asset
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

Athletics Special Projects Assistant

Applications: Athletics is currently hiring for a summer special projects assistant. Preference is given to candidates who meet Lakehead Work Study eligibility criteria.

Description: The Athletics Special Projects Assistant will help provide support with various special projects throughout the summer, and also assist with office and administrative tasks.

Aquatics Staff Positions

The pool is currently hiring lifeguards! Major responsibilities include overseeing the safety and supervision of all patrons on pool deck during hours of operations, ensuring the pool meets health and safety regulations, the building and surrounding areas are clean, tided and safe for participants, and that the University’s policies are enforced. Qualifications include:

  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool Qualification
  • Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ (Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, or St. John’s)
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Applicants must have proof of up-to-date qualifications (current within the last two years)
  • Responsible, committed, professional, good communication skills, pleasant/courteous manner

Facilities Positions

Facilities Attendant

Applications: Lakehead Athletics is not currently hiring for facility attendants

Position Description: The Lakehead University C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse is looking for individuals with excellent customer service skills, and ability to maintain exceptional facilities to provide a safe and clean environment for patrons. As a facilities attendant you are responsible for membership sales, laundry service, as well as general maintenance and cleaning of facility. Applicants must have excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Qualifications:

  • Customer Service Oriented
  • Strong Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Experience working with computers
  • First Aid Certified
  • Receive payment/issue receipt
  • Attention to Detail
  • Work independently and in a team environment

Varsity Operations Positions

Dollar_signAll game management and sports information jobs are part-time positions available from September to February. The work takes place primarily on weekends. These positions are sport-specific, therefore successful candidates must be very familiar with the playing rules and regulations of the sport to which the role applies.

 Desired Attributes:

  • Experience playing and/or coaching the sport is an asset;
  • quick thinking;
  • adaptable;
  • attentive, and
  • confident in their performance in a fast-paced varsity game setting.

Some roles require candidates to be computer efficient or possess special skills (numeracy, inter-personal). Training will be provided for all positions and we are seeking individuals of any age who are eager, willing to learn, and be a part of the varsity athletics game management and/or sports information team for both the current and future varsity seasons.

Campus Recreation Positions

Campus Recreation serves the entire university population in opportunities to engage in sport throughout the year by participating in various league sports! We are always looking for members to join our team who are passionate for sport. Our team consists of convenors, referees, and scorekeepers for all of our leagues include soccer, volleyball, basketball, flag football, hockey, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, and innertube waterpolo. All campus recreation positions typically work in the evenings Sundays-Thursdays. Most sports run between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm, with the exception of hockey which runs between 9:00 pm and 12:30 am.

Campus Recreation Referees

Applications: Lakehead Campus Rec is not currently accepting applications for Referees.

Description: In these roles you will work alongside your sport convenor to deliver an excellent experience for participants in our campus rec leagues. Duties include attending all trainings and league nights. You will enforce all rules and regulations of the sport, while maintaining a safe environment for participants.

  • Prior experience officiating an asset
  • Understanding of the rules and regulations of your desired sport
  • Customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to stand and move around for extending periods of time
  • Ability to manage conflict
  • Flexibility in relation to work schedule
  • Problem solving abilities

Campus Recreation Scorekeepers/Timers

Applications: Lakehead Campus Rec is not currently accepting applications for Scorekeepers/Timers.

Description: In this role you will be required to work late evenings for our hockey leagues, assisting the hockey convenor with various administrative duties include roster management and game sheets. During games you will be tracking scores, goals, penalties, and assists and managing the game clock. Qualifications include:

  • Understanding and passion for hockey
  • Customer service skills are desirable
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience timekeeping considered an asset
