Curling OUAs: Dick Henderson named Coach of the Year

| Curling, News

The Lakehead Thunderwolves curling team competed at the OUA Curling Championship this past weekend. Both mens and women’s teams finished with a 3-4 record in their pool. Dick Henderson was named 2017 OUA Coach of the Year for women’s curling.

In their last round robin game, the men’s team, skipped by Dave Henderson, third-Matt Smith, second Evan Chisamore-Johnston and lead-Mark Metcalfe and coach Bill Charlebois,  started strong with a five in the first end against the eventual Gold Medalist Laurier Golden Hawks but couldn’t hold the lead and fell out of playoff contention.

The women’s team skipped by Hailey Beaudry, third-Kendra Lemieux, second Emily Cooney and lead – Erin Tomalty defeated Western in their final round robin game 8-5 by stealing 3 points in the final end. The ladies fell one win short of a playoff birth but their record saw them rise to 10th in the seeding pool up 3 places from last year’s event.
