T-Wolves Badgered at the Meridian Centre

Hugh Mullally | Basketball (W)

The women’s basketball team bravely faced the Brock Badgers, and the 2000+ crowd in the Meridian Centre on Saturday, losing 72-50.

Both teams struggled to find their range from the field early, with the Badgers leading 14-11 after 10 minutes. The Badgers would eventually be the team to pull away in the second quarter, and led 34-19 at halftime.

DSC_0039The third quarter saw the T-Wolves’ offense stall for the first six minutes until Jerika Baldin hit a three pointer. In the meantime the Badgers had already built a 20+ point lead.

The rest of the way was tough sledding for Lakehead, and midway through the fourth quarter coach Jon Kreiner waved the white flag and sent in his bench.

Rachel Webber was the only Thunderwolf to reach double digits with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Katelyn Andrea had 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Four Badgers scored in double digits, led by Kira Cornelissen with 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Coach Jon Kreiner:

“Brock is a very good team and they made us pay tonight for our mistakes. We really struggled to get anything going offensively. Brock did a great job flattening us out and played with great energy tonight.”

The women’s next games will be in late December at the Thunder Selects Holiday Classic in Halifax.
