Women’s Hoops Take 50-33 Loss to Ravens

Hugh Mullally | Basketball (W)

It was another tough day at the Thunder Selects Holiday Classic for Jon Kreiner and the women’s basketball team, this time taking a 50-33 loss to the Carleton Ravens.

Lakehead’s defense was never in question, as they held the Ravens in check all game. The only problem was, the Ravens were also solid defensively, limiting Lakehead to single-digit scoring in three of the game’s four quarters.

The ‘Wolves were limited to 25% shooting on the game, and were led by Katelyn Zen with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Jerika Baldin made 4 assists with 4 rebounds.

The ‘Wolves were clearly missing the presence of rookie guard Rachel Webber, who has continued to be sidelined with injuries, the most recent one to her wrist with no time table for a return.

For the Ravens, Lindsay Shotbolt and Heather Lindsay each scored 10 points.

Carleton out-rebounded Lakehead 51-34.

The ‘Wolves did make a run late in the fourth quarter, but were unable to convert on layups and free throws that would have cut the Ravens’ lead to single digits.

Coach Jon Kreiner:

“Our effort was much better today. We held a very good team in check defensively. Our offensive struggles continue as we are having a difficult time creating and maintaining any sort of advantage on the offensive end.”

The women’s team will complete their tournament schedule tomorrow morning at 9am (Atlantic) against the Brock Badgers.
