Lakehead Basketball visits Ottawa & Carleton

The Lakehead men’s and women’s basketball teams are heading to our nations capital this weekend to take on the uOttawa Gee-Gees on Friday night, followed by the Carleton Ravens on Saturday.

Women’s Basketball (4-7)

Coach Kreiner:

“We have two very tough games on the road this weekend against 7-2 Ottawa & 8-1 Carleton who is also the #4 team in the country. Both teams have very skilled, big and strong posts and both teams have the top defenses in the league. Carleton is a much bigger team overall then Ottawa but scoring will be at a premium. We will need to hope our shooting is on point and that we are focused on following our game plan for 40 minutes to have success.”

Ottawa has a 3-1 record at home and is second in the OUA North behind Carleton.

#4 Carleton is undefeated at home and averaging 70 points per game. Carleton’s Heather Lindsay is averaging 18.6 points per game and leads the league with most rebounds per game of 12.6.

The ‘Wolves are coming off a split this past weekend and will be looking to carry their defensive momentum as they held the Brock Badgers to only 47 points on Saturday night compared to 92 points the previous night.

Men’s Basketball (3-8)

“We’re playing the best 2 teams in the country this weekend on the road. What more can you ask for?  These are the moments as athletes and competitors that you need to prepare for and embrace.” – Coach Furtado

Carleton (9-0) and Ottawa (9-0) are the top two teams in the U Sports Top 10.

Ottawa has four of its player’s averaging double digits and gives away the fewest points in the league.

Carleton is averaging 92 points per game this season being led by Connor Wood, who has the highest points per game in the league with 22.8 along side Kaza Kajami-Keane with 16.4.

The Thunderwolves have proven they are capable of taking down a top ten team as seen this past weekend with their split against #8 Brock University.
