Lakehead Women’s Basketball to Compete Against Top Canada West Teams

| Basketball (W), News

The Lakehead Women’s Basketball team is heading on a long road trip to compete in the BOB FM Tournament from Oct. 5-7 and then heading to Regina to play another tournament from Oct. 10-12.

“This is a very big trip for our women’s basketball team as we continue to work towards getting ready for league play. Six games in nine days against very tough competition on the road will be a great challenge for us and we are looking forward to pushing our limits and seeing what this group has to offer.” – Head Coach Jon Kreiner

Last year, the Thunderwolves won the BOB FM Tournament, going undefeated against UNBC (82-62), Winnipeg (64-63) and Manitoba (76-56). Leashja Grant was named the tournament MVP as well as Bridget O’Reilly was named an All-Star.

So far this year Lakehead has two wins under their belt after playing Algoma earlier in September in two non-conferences games. The Wolves won 93-66 the first night and 87-50 the next.

Lakehead will be playing some of the top teams in Canada as it will be a good test before they head into OUA league play later this month.

“All three teams in Winnipeg are very good and present multiple challenges. Lethbridge put up 101 points against McGill last weekend and both Regina and Saskatchewan were at the Final 8 National Championships last season,” says head coach Jon Kreiner.
