Lakehead University Sports Medicine Clinic provides high quality care in a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation facility. We use the latest in evidence-based treatment techniques and encourage recovery and progress through active living and healthy lifestyles. Our team consists of:


Dr. Dave Mckee, M.D.

Dr. Mckee was born and raised in Northwestern Ontario. He trained at Queens University and the University of Calgary. Dave practiced emergency medicine in Thunder Bay for nearly 2 decades and has recently joined the Sports Medicine clinic at Lakehead University. Dave was also the team doctor for Canada’s World Cup Alpine ski team.

Orthopedic Surgeon: 

Dr. Russell Peter Clark

Dr. Clark has been a orthopedic sports specialist for Lakehead University for 14 years. He trained at the University of Manitoba and University of Ottawa. While studying at the University of Manitoba he competed as a varsity gymnast. He is also an avid cross-country skier, runner and cyclist.


Peter Jordan, HBPE., BHSc(PT)

Peter is a physiotherapist and the clinic owner. He is a Lakehead University graduate of the Physical Education program prior to attending McMaster University for his Physiotherapy degree. Peter grew up in Thunder Bay, moved to southern Ontario for a few years and returned in 2000 when he started his clinic at Lakehead University.

Kirsten Sample BSC(Kin) MSc(PT)

Kirsten has been working as a physiotherapist at the Lakehead University Sports Medicine Clinic for 3 years. She completed her physiotherapy training at McMaster University and prior to that studied Kinesiology at St. Francis Xavier University. Kirsten moved to Thunder Bay for the opportunity to work in an orthopedic setting while still having access to various outdoor activities in her time off. She competed as a varsity rugby player and was active in basketball and volleyball as well. Kirsten has an interest in knee and ankle injuries and enjoys working with athletes of all abilities. She practices with a manual therapy approach combined with exercise to help clients reach their goals.

Brian Rosina MSc(PT), BSc(Kin), MCPA

Brian graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Kinesiology Degree in 2000 and Physiotherapy in 2003. Shortly thereafter, Brian moved to Thunder Bay to work and enjoy the outdoors. Brian has continued with post-graduate training in several orthopedic areas which has allowed him to thoroughly assess and effectively treat various musculoskeletal injuries. Brian also works with the Nordic Ski Team at the National Development Centre, providing Functional Movement Screening (FMS) and treatment for various injuries. In Brian’s spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing an active lifestyle including cycling, running, cross-country skiing, kite-boarding, general strengthening and conditioning.

Athletic Therapists: 

Joanna Sanchez, HBK, CAT(C)

Joanna is the Head Athletic Therapist for Lakehead University Athletics. She graduated from the Kinesiology program at Lakehead prior to completing her Athletic Therapy Certification at Mount Royal College in Calgary. Joanna has served the Thunder Bay sports community in events such as the World Junior Baseball Championships, CIS and OUA championships, along with high school and elementary school sports. She has been the Head Therapist for the Thunder Bay Border Cats baseball club since its inception in 2003.


Massage Therapist:

Vanessa Perrier, RMT, SMT (cc), BA
Vanessa Perrier joined the Lakehead Sports Medicine Clinic in 2015. She is a registered massage therapist (Lambton College ’14) with an Advanced Diploma in Massage Therapy.  Vanessa is a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay who attended Lakehead University to study political science before her passion in health and fitness led her to pursue a career in massage therapy.
Since graduating, Vanessa has developed an interest in sports and rehabilitative massage therapy and become a member of the Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association.  She is trained in soft tissue release, Swedish massage, myo-Fascial release, active and passive stretching, trigger point therapy and joint mobilizations.  She has gained valuable experience working with a multitude of different injuries and sports related issues through her training and through her experience working with the Lakehead University athletes.
