Women’s Hoops Welcome Transfer Amanda Miller

| Basketball (W), News

The women’s basketball program announced their latest recruiting commitment on Monday: Amanda Miller, of Pontiac, Michigan.

Miller arrives at Lakehead after playing two years at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas where she averaged over 10 points and 6 rebounds per game last season.

Lakehead Coach Jon Kreiner describes Miller’s attributes, saying “Amanda is a very long athlete who gets her hands on many passes. She is a good shooter from the perimeter and she has the potential to be a very tough matchup as she can play both inside and out.”

A 5’11” wing player who can also post up, Miller will pursue her kinesiology degree.

Amanda Miller recruitMiller graduated high school with an impressive resume for the Pontiac Phoenix, where she was a 3-time MVP, on top of being named to the All-State 3rd team and receiving honorable mention on the All-State 2nd team. Miller also made the list of the 12 best players in Oakland County.

A multi-sport athlete, she was a decorated volleyball, softball and track and field star, and achieved the top scholar recognition among her teammates.

While at Colby Community College Amanda was a team captain and rookie of the year for the Lady Trojans.

On attending Lakehead University, Amanda remarks, “I am excited to attend Lakehead University because it is big on my academic program of interest [kinesiology]. I also chose to come here because it’s in Canada, has a great basketball team, plus I get an extra year of eligibility. I love the campus and how small it is, everything is more convenient and is geared to support student-athletes.”

Antowin Edwards, Miller’s coach at Colby C.C. praised Miller’s talents:

“Amanda was a huge part of our program’s success this year. She was asked to play out of position her entire career at Colby, but made the most of the situation and worked hard everyday. She eventually became one of the toughest match-ups in the league and helped us improve this season.”
