The women’s basketball team coasted to a 97-50 victory on Saturday evening over the Canadian Mennonite U Blazers, evening their record to 1-1 at the BOB FM Shootout, hosted by the University of Winnipeg.
The Thunderwolves got a lead early and held onto it despite some good shooting (39%)from the CMU Blazers.
Leading scorers for Lakehead were Cassandra Soulias with 17 points, followed by Blair McNaughton with 15, Gillian Lavoie with 13, while Katelyn Zen and August Ricketts scored 12 points apiece.
Sophomore point guard Jerika Baldin made 7 assists with no turnovers.
Coach Jon Kreiner summarizes the game:
“CMU can really shoot the ball, but thankfully we shot well too [9-17 from three point land]. This was a great game to get the bench some big minutes and develop as a team.”
