The Lakehead Women’s Basketball team is heading to Edmonton, AB this weekend to play 3 non-conference games in the HoopFest Tournament hosted by the University of Alberta.
“We will play 3 elite CIS teams. Alberta and Regina were top 5 teams last season. Regina is undefeated and is perhaps the team to beat in the CIS, and Toronto recently beat McGill, one of the top teams in the country.”
–Coach Kreiner
To start the weekend, the women will play a tough game against host University of Alberta (2-3 non-conference). The Pandas finished 17-3 in the regular season last year and placed fifth overall at Nationals for a second-straight season in a row.
In their second game, the ‘Wolves will face the University of Regina (7-0 non-conference), who also finished 17-3 last year and lost to the Pandas in the 5th place game by only 1 point.
The women will then go on to play the University of Toronto (3-3 non-conference) who has already proven to be a tough match-up who can take down any team.
“We will have our hands full but this will be a great learning experience for our team as we gear up for league play.”–Coach Kreiner
The Thunderwolves (5-3 non-conference) are coming off a 2 game weekend sweep against the University of Manitoba and are looking to continue their momentum against 3 tough CIS teams.
These are the last non-conference games for the women’s basketball team before they head into the regular season on November 5th.
