The Lakehead basketball teams will play on their home court this weekend as they take on the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor in the Thunderdome on Friday and Saturday night.
Women’s Basketball (1-2)
“We have a very tough weekend ahead of us”, commented Coach Kreiner.
The Western Mustangs are currently 3-0 in the regular season and are second in the OUA West.
“Western is a very high scoring team with the leading scorer in the OUA, Mackenzie Puklicz. They have solid posts surrounded by good shooters” – Coach Kreiner
Fourth-year guard Mackenzie Puklicz is averaging 27 points per game this season.
Windsor (2-0) has had a strong start to the season thus far beating both Nipissing and Laurentian both by 20 plus points.
“Windsor is the #6 ranked team in the country and have two of the top post combinations in Cheyanne Rogers & Emily Prevost. Rookie Kayah Clarke has been dominant and their leading scorer thus far (over 17 points per game). They also have some great shooters surrounding their posts.”
Thunderwolf August Ricketts led her team this past weekend scoring over 13 points each night and currently leads the OUA with the highest field goal percentage.
“We will have our work cut out for us as we look to battle two very good OUA teams. We will need to be very disciplined and stick to our game plan and be ready to knock down shots”-Coach Kreiner
Men’s Basketball (1-2)
“We are playing two talented teams this weekend,” commented Coach Furtado.
The Western men’s team (0-3) has lost some close games this season so far but has proven to have a lot of talent and hustle during games.
Windsor (1-1) is ranked first in the OUA West and has a handful of athletes who have the ability to score big numbers. Senior Mike Rocca averages 21 points per game for the Lancers.
Thunderwolf Bacarius Dinkins will lead his team this weekend with the second highest rebounds per game in the OUA alongside teammates Mor Menashe, Alexandre Robichaud and Henry Tan who have been strong threats thus far.
