Leashja Grant of the Lakehead women’s basketball team is competing with the Bahamas Senior National team at the Centrobasket Women’s Championship 2018 from August 20-24 in Manati, Puerto Rico that will qualify the top-four teams to the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019.
“I am very excited and proud to play for my great nation as we look to qualify for the 2020 Olympics. I want to thank my family and the Bahamas Basketball Federation for believing in me and allowing me to represent the Bahamas in the Centrobasket Women’s Championships. Hopefully, I make them and my Lakehead family proud!”- Leashja Grant
Grant had an amazing season with the Thunderwolves this past year being named OUA Player of the year while getting a double-double in all but one game and averaging 22.3 PPG and 14.1 RPG.
“The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball program and the athletics department is extremely proud of Leashja’s involvement with the Bahamas National Team as they strive to qualify for the 2020 Olympics. This will be the Bahama’s last shot to qualify and the Thunderwolves family will be following closely and cheering Leashja and her country on”, says Thunderwolves women’s basketball head coach Jon Kreiner.
Mario Bowleg, VP of Bahamas Basketball Federation, had this to say about Grant:
“The Bahamas basketball federation has always been pleased with Leashja Grant being a part of our Senior Women’s National basketball team. She brings a lot of energy, size, enthusiasm and she’s a player that when she puts her mind to it anything goes when she plays to the best of her ability. Leashja Grant is a great asset for us in our quest to advance to the next level, which would be the America’s cup. I would like to thank Leashja’s family for allowing us to have this opportunity to have Leashja represent the great nation of the Bahamas.”
The Bahamas will play Puerto Rico today followed by Mexico and Costa Rica later this week.
