Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Lakehead vs. Brock

Lakehead Athletics hosted an engagement event on November 28 for Lakehead Alumni, along with friends and family of Lakehead Basketball.

The Meridian Centre, a beautiful facility that holds over 5,000 fans, was the setting for the event.

Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden hosted guests at the suite level, and welcomed over 100 alumni and parents to visit and watch the Thunderwolves take on the Brock Badgers in a basketball double-header. Lou Pero, President of the Alumni Association and an assistant with the women’s team, was also key in facilitating the event.

Lakehead alum Greg Carter (Business, ‘13) now calls the Meridian Centre home, having signed with the Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Basketball League this year.

“It’s great to carry the Lakehead flag and see so many friendly Lakehead faces here on my new home court,” said Carter, who has also built a successful career with RBC since graduating.

Lakehead alumni from the 80’s to recent grads attended the event. One Lakehead alumni duo, Lynne and Charles Johnson, came from Kelowna, BC, to see their son Quincy play and re-connect once again with their alma mater.

“It was great to have everyone come out, re-connect and enjoy some social time together at the games,” said Tom Warden. “We had a lot of people back to Thunder Bay for Homecoming in October, and many of the same folks were there in St Catharines because of the Lakehead history and community we share together. It may sound ‘corny’, but the Lakehead family transcends time and space. Where there’s Lakehead alumni getting together around sports, I’m proud and elated to be there.”
