The Lakehead women’s basketball team (6-9) defeated the Nipissing Lakers, 79-53, on the road tonight in North Bay.

The Thunderwolves started the first quarter with a 9-0 run but the Lakers brought themselves back in the game only being down 20-15 at the end of the quarter. Lakehead struggled in the second quarter but still held their lead at the half, 33-30.

The ‘Wolves picked up their defence in the third, holding the Lakers to only 7 points while scoring 22. Lakehead continued to outscore the Lakers in the fourth quarter, solidifying their 79-53 win.

“Nipissing slowed us down in the first half and hit some open looks. Credit to them for playing well and forcing us off rhythm. We found our stride in the second half hitting our open looks and getting the ball inside. Bridget had a great third quarter after some first half foul trouble and I thought Lindsey Edward played really well defensively for us in the second half. We now have to get ready for a quick turn around trip to Guelph for some really big games.” – Coach Kreiner

Bridget O’Reilly led her team with 19 points, being 5-9 from behind the arc. Katelyn Zen and Gillian Lavoie both put up 14 points each and Jerika Baldin has 8 assists, 1 steal.

The Thunderwolves will take on the Guelph Gryphons next weekend in a double header on the road.
