‘Wolves No Match For Huskies, Lose 76-45

The women’s basketball team began their campaign at the 2015 Thunder Selects Holiday Classic with a 76-45 loss to the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
It was a tough go on Monday for the ‘Wolves, who were greeted by the hosting Huskies with a 21-3 run to begin the game. They trailed 24-7 after 10 minutes.
Bridget O’Reilly was the the lone Thunderwolf to score in double digits or hit a 3-pointer, putting up 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting with three 3’s.
Amanda Miller was the next highest scoring Thunderwolf with 7 points.
Saint Mary’s offense was head and shoulders above that of Lakehead, making 21 assists on 29 field goals, compared to 6 on 17 field goals for the ‘Wolves. Laura Langille was the Huskies’ leading scorer with 14 points.
Coach Jon Kreiner:
“It was a rough one tonight against Saint Mary’s. We got of f to a poor start, battled in the second and third Q but didn’t finish strong. Looking forward to improving our rebounding and perimeter defense tomorrow. We also need to create more quality shots in the paint.”
Lakehead will take on either Carleton or UPEI tomorrow at 3pm (Atlantic time).
