Men’s Basketball:

The Lakehead Men’s basketball team will look to lock in their #1 spot in the OUA Central Division this weekend as they take on the Varsity Blues of Toronto this weekend.  The Thunderwolves (15-3) remain first in the OUA Central Division, while the Varsity Blues sit in 4th with a record of 7-11. Your Thunderwolves split last weekend’s away trip to the Brock Badgers who now sit in 2nd in the Central Division. Of note last weekend, Chris Sagl entered the 100o point club, a feat already achieved by his team-mate Nathan Bilamu this season.

Lakehead sit 3rd in points per game while Toronto are in 9th with a near 10pt disparity between the two squads.  On the defensive side of the ball, your Wolves are 6th in rebounds allowed per game (36.9) while U of T are 11th allowing 38.2 per game.

This weekend’s matchups are the final regular season home games for the team in the 2024/25 season. Saturday will see Nathan Bilamu and Ethan Willmore recognized as the team’s two graduating seniors – be sure to come on out and support these graduating athletes!

Women’s Basketball:

Since the last home stand the Women’s team were able to register a win on the road against the York Lions in what was a thrilling game. Sara Azzolini secured the W on a Friday night in York with a buzzer-beater from beyond the 3-pt line. Last weekend saw the team travel to Brock where they took on one of the countries most in-from squads, losing out in both fixtures.

This weekend should see a closely contested battle take place at the Thunderdome. Your Wolves sit 5th in the OUA Central Division, and the U of T -Varsity Blues are in 6th place.

The teams are closely matched in terms of scoring, with the Wolves sitting just above Toronto in Points per Game (51.4 vs. 49.6) while also being relatively close on the defensive end of the game, with Lakehead allowing opponents on average 67.5 points per game while Toronto allows 71.3 per game.

Ally Burke will hope to achieve a milestone moment in front of the home crowd this weekend, with the 4th year guard just 3pts shy of reaching 1000 career points. Be sure to come on out to witness this fantastic achievement while also recognizing the program’s graduating athletes on Saturday during our Seniors Night where Emily Pokrant and Hana Whalen will be recognized!
