SHE’S BACK! LILY GRUBER-SCHULZ RETURNS!
Lakehead University Thunderwolves Women’s Basketball is Extremely Excited to Announce the Return of 6’1″ Forward Lily Gruber-Schulz
Lily Gruber-Schulz hails from Grand-Marias, MN, just over an hour and a half drive from Thunder Bay. Lily played from 2016-2020 and started all 32 games her sophomore season. Lily was the team’s captain for three years (including through the 2020-21 pandemic season). During Lily’s time at Lakehead, the team compiled a 82-54 record and was ranked 6th in the Nation during the 2018-19 season when the team went 28-9 overall. Lily will be returning to Lakehead to complete her Masters of Social Justice.
Coach Jon Kreiner on Lily’s return;
“Lily is a winner and we know she will immediately bring her winning ways to our program. Lily is a very smart point-forward who will immediately elevate our interior passing, post play and inside game. Lily is a very good shooter, rebounder and defender but she has always been 3rd on the team in assists and knows how to make post players better. I am really looking forward to Lily working with Second year Eva Guilera. The two of them will work very well together. Lily’s leadership, experience and basketball IQ will be an asset for a very young team that will be looking to make its mark next season.”
Lily on her decision to return and play her final year with the Thunderwolves;
“I’m excited to do what I love—play basketball, and also continue my education. What a great opportunity to come back and finish my University career right where it started! I look forward to helping the team advance to new levels, getting to play with my old teammates, and join the Thunderwolves family again.”
