Leashja Grant, the fifth-year forward who led the Thunderwolves women’s basketball team to 20-4 regular-season record and an OUA playoffs semi-final appearance, has been named a USPORTS First Team All-Canadian. Grant averaged 20.9 points (4th in the country), 12.4 rebounds (2nd in the country), and 2.5 steals (9th in the country) per game this season.
“I’m extremely proud of Leashja Grant and just how well respected she was for her talents over the last two seasons,” Thunderwolves head coach Jon Kreiner said. “Leashja became a force on both ends of the floor this season. She could defend any post without help and also generated transition points from her timely steals.”
The Nassau, Bahamas native was named to the All-Canadian First Team last year as well after averaging 22.3 points, 14.1 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game.
“Being named back-to-back OUA player of the year and USPORTS First Team All-Canadian is an extremely special achievement both for Leashja and the Thunderwolves Women’s Basketball program,” Kreiner said. “We will certainly miss having Leashja and we wish her all the best as she looks to continue her basket all career at the pro level.”
Grant will leave Lakehead having accumulated 1029 points, 638 rebounds, 77 assists, 102 steals, and 58 blocks in only 48 regular-season games over her two years in Thunder Bay.
