Local Kate Clower named Coach of Lakehead Women’s Hockey Program

| Hockey (W)

Lakehead University Athletics is pleased to welcome Kate Clower as the new Coach and Coordinator of the Lakehead women’s club hockey team.

“We are excited to have Kate join the team. She has great experience and an undeniable passion for hockey that will only continue to excel our program,” explains Lakehead Athletics Director, Tom Warden.

Originally from Thunder Bay, Kate played her entire minor hockey career locally before obtaining a Division I NCAA full ride scholarship to Minnesota State University Mankato. Kate returned home to Thunder Bay and went on to coach with the Norwest Minor Hockey Association and Thunder Bay Bantam AA Queens.

“I am extremely honoured to be joining the Women’s hockey program at Lakehead University. I am excited to be able to give back to a sport and city that has provided me with so many amazing opportunities,” says Kate.

Kate is ready to continue the team’s success this year in the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) as they strive for their third national championship.

Kate can be reached at Womenshockeyclub@lakeheadu.ca

“Dan Calvert, Mike Friday, Joey Tougas, and Leah and Elizabeth Vanderway have done amazing things for this program and have obviously had great success as the two time ACHA national champions. Without their time and dedication to the program I would be stepping into an entirely different situation. They have created a strong foundation to the Women’s hockey program as a whole and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead as we continue to grow the program and ultimately continue to have as much success as in the past” – Kate Clower
