In the wake of the regular season, the first round of OUA basketball playoffs are just around the corner, with both the women and men hosting games this Wednesday evening in the Thunderdome.
Schedule and ticket info follows below.
Women (14-5, OUA #5)
The women’s team enter the preliminary round seeded #5 and will host the #12 Western Mustangs (7-13).
The ‘Wolves dispatched the Western team with relative ease, 71-45, in their regular season match up last week in Thunder Bay. Jylisa Williams scored 28 points with 10 rebounds in that game, and Corina Bruni did not play.
The women’s team hopes to keep the status quo against Western and ensure a second round match up with Central division rival McMaster on Saturday in Hamilton.
Men (11-8, OUA #7)
The men’s team are fresh off a double-header against Guelph, and will host the Gryphons (8-11, OUA #9) once more on Wednesday night.
The men’s team lost a close 69-66 decision on Friday night in a game that they lead for more than three quarters. The ‘Wolves put a better foot forward in Saturday’s rematch, establishing an early lead and keeping the Gryphons at bay for the duration, winning 89-74.
Lakehead’s post players did a great job of drawing the defense into the paint, creating open looks for shooters such as Ashaunti Hogan, Alex Robichaud, and Jamar Coke. Guelph is strongest at the guard and small forward positions, so Lakehead will likely look to forwards Bacarius Dinkins and Anthony McIntosh to establish Lakehead’s game plan at both ends of the floor.
The winner of this game will play the Carleton Ravens, Saturday in Ottawa.
Webcast Coverage will be available via OUA TV.
