Women’s Volleyball (4-6)

Jessica Korchak (Thunder Bay)

Coach Green: “In her 2nd year Jessica has established herself as one of the best blockers in the OUA and has increased her offensive numbers weekly. Her dedication to becoming the best blocker, and becoming a strong attacker, server and defender, is nothing short of inspirational as she works hard in every aspect of her day. Only in her 2nd year, her future is bright and with her work ethic she will achieve.”

Cross Country Running

Male: Kevin Tree (Tottenham, Ont.)

Coach Sigsworth: “Kevin had an amazing month of November proving he is one the best cross country runners in Canada.  At the CIS Championships in Guelph he ran a confident race, leading most of the first 8km, before eventually finishing 2nd. This performance was Lakehead’s first ever medal at the CIS Cross Country Running Championships. It also qualified Kevin for the World University Cross Country Running Championships in Italy in March and earned him First Team All-Canadian status.  At the National Senior Cross Country Running Championships in Kingston this past weekend Kevin took on Canada’s best university and post collegiate runners including a number of former Olympians. He ended up finishing 6th and qualifying for Canadian National Team that will compete at the Pan American Cross Country Running Championships in Venezuela in March.”

Female: Marla Keyes (Thunder Bay, Ont.)

Coach Sigsworth: “Marla made the most of her only race in November at the Canadian Senior Women’s Cross Country Running Championships in Kingston. She had her best race of the year finishing 42nd overall in a very competitive field.”

Women’s Basketball (3-5)

Bridget O’Reilly (Seaforth, Ont.)

Coach Jon Kreiner: “Bridget has had a great start to her sophomore year. In 8 league games she has been our leading scorer and is the leading shooter in the league. She is also a very versatile and important component to our defense as she has guarded point guards, shooters, wings and forwards. Bridget’s attention to detail and drive to succeed is second to none which will serve her well as she continues to develop into one of the league’s most well rounded players.”

Quick Stats : 12 PPG (team leader) on 42% FG 23-58 3PT FG (40%), 23 3PT (OUA #1, CIS #2),

3.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1 assists per game

Men’s Basketball (3-5)

Bacarius Dinkins (Jonesville, FL)

Coach Furtado: “Bacarius continues to control the paint for us. His ability to block and alter shots while guarding some of the other team’s best post players has been huge for us. We’ll need him to continue to step up 2nd semester and carry this team going forward.”

Quick Nov stats: 14 PPG, 7 RPG, 2 BPG

Hockey (1-10-3)

Justin Sefton (Thunder Bay)

Coach Bill McDonald: “Our athlete of the month is Justin Sefton . He’s done great work for us on the blue line, and is key on the power play and the penalty kill. He logs an enormous amount of time for us and has been a solid sophomore for us.”
