After a weekend off, the Lakehead men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready to play their first OUA regular season home games in the Thunderdome. The Wolves will be taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs and the Nipissing Lakers on Friday and Saturday night at 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
Women’s Basketball (1-1)
Coach Jon Kriener:
“A bye week was a good thing for our program but now we need to get back into the grind of OUA league play. We are excited for our home opener this weekend against Laurentian. They played very well their last two games and playing with a lot of energy. Nipissing had a huge win over Waterloo and will also be riding a good high from last weekend. Defense and rebounding has to be a key for us this weekend as well as moving the ball on offense.”
The Thunderwolves opened the season two weeks ago on the road with a 77-61 loss to a strong Queen’s team and came back with a big win against York, 69-63.
Leashja Grant leads the Wolves averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds per game in the regular season.
Laurentian and Nipissing are also both currently 1-1 in the regular season so far.
Men’s Basketball (0-2)
“The bye week has given our team an opportunity to make some changes in preparation for this weekend as well as the year. We’ve had some of our best practices recently so hopefully, that will carry over to the weekend.” – Coach Manny Furtado
Laurentian is currently 2-0 taking down Waterloo and Laurier. Nipissing has an even record of 1-1.
