Lakehead’s #10-ranked USPORTS women’s basketball team hits the road this weekend for another big OUA matchup. The Thunderwolves head down to Hamilton to face the USPORTS #4 McMaster Marauders in a battle of 12-2 teams, tied for first in the OUA West.
“This is a huge weekend for both teams,” Thunderwolves head coach Jon Kreiner says. “This weekend will set the stage for first place in the OUA West, as well as the right to host two playoff games. Nothing is guaranteed if either team does their job this weekend, but it sure will help.”
McMaster enters the weekend on a six-game win streak, while Lakehead looks to rebound from their loss to the Windsor Lancers on January 12th. The Marauders also come into the games with a scoring margin nearly 100 points ahead of the Thunderwolves, but Lakehead brings three wins against nation top-ten teams, whereas McMaster has one. This weekend will help cement positions in both national and provincial rankings.
“Our team cannot look ahead,” Kreiner says, “and we must be focused on Friday’s tilt with the #4 team in the nation. McMaster is big in all positions, one of the top shooting teams in the country, are tough, physical defenders, and are overall a very skilled team.”
The women’s games tip off at 6pm on both Friday, January 18th, and Saturday, January 19th at Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton.
“We need to play disciplined basketball,” Kreiner says, “and to understand what our game plan is on both ends of the floor.”
