The women’s basketball team (3-2) will spend their second consecutive weekend in Winnipeg, as they compete this time around in U Manitoba Bison’s Shoot for the Cure Invitational, to take on the Winnipeg Wesmen, the U Manitoba Bisons, and the Algoma Thunderbirds.
The previous three games against the Wesmen have been decided by a total of 9 points, with Lakehead taking one of the three, and the Wesmen holding a slim 199-190 point advantage over the T-Wolves in those games.
“On Friday we get our fourth crack at Winnipeg.” says coach Jon Kreiner. “Our games against them have been extremely competitive and it’s been a great learning experience for our team and we anticipate that to continue.”
Lakehead was victorious 65-41 over the Bisons last weekend but are aware of the threat they pose on their home court.
“Manitoba struggled to score against us last week but they missed some open looks that could easily go their way this week, as we expect them to play at t high level in their home tournament,” mentions Kreiner.
Looking towards Sunday’s game, Kreiner adds, “Against Algoma we expect that coach Vetrie will unwrap something new against us, since we’ll have two chances to scout them Friday and Saturday.”
There is no webcast currently scheduled for these events, but look for updates closer to game times via Lakehead AthleticsFacebook and Twitter, or CanadaWest TV.
