Head Coach Ryan Thomson of the Lakehead men’s basketball team will be spending time at Humber College – North Campus (Toronto, ON) this week while volunteering with the U17 Canadian Men’s Basketball National team during their training camp from June 11-16.

This year the team is coached by Head Coach Kirby Schepp (University of Manitoba) and assisted by Michael Meeks (Canada Basketball), Dan Vanhooren (University of Calgary), and Jason Dawkins (Team Ontario).

“Excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Canada Basketball program and get the chance to learn from Coach Schepp and the rest of the staff. It’s an honor to be a part of Canada Basketball in any capacity and this is a talented U17 roster that will be fun to watch grow and improve over the course of training and competition this summer,” said Coach Ryan Thomson

After training, the team heads to Mexico City for pre-competition training and from there will go to Argentina for more pre-competition training before competing in the FIBA U17 World Championships.

Last year the team won silver at the FIBA U16 Americas Championships in Argentina and is currently ranked 2nd in the world in the FIBA Youth Men Rankings.
