The Lakehead men’s basketball team (2-14) lost 80-74 to the Waterloo Warriors (7-9) in game two of the weekend double header in the Thunderdome.

Waterloo started the game with a 6-0 run but the Wolves quickly responded, taking back the lead 17-12 after the first ten minutes.

The Thunderwolves continued to push the gap open in the second with the leadership of Mor Menashe. Lakehead finished the half with a 38-29 lead.

The third quarter was the Thunderwolves demise as they only scored 11 points while the Warriors went off scoring 34 points.

Down 20 in the fourth, the Thunderwolves were determined not to give up. Lakehead fought their way back and found their momentum again, bringing it within 6 but ultimately ran out of time, losing 80-74.

Coach Ryan Thomson:

“We competed hard but the third quarter really did us in. We have to work to remain positive when things aren’t going our way. We had some looks and were able to make it close at the end. Waterloo is a well coached team and did a great job of attacking the rim and keeping us on our heels. We’re looking to get better on Monday and prepare for the upcoming weekend.”

Mor Menashe had 25 points, 12 rebounds and Nick Burke had 12 points and 5 assists. Kache Kopec contributed 16 points and Mike Theodore and Noel Jones each had 6.

The Thunderwolves are on the road next weekend as they face Windsor (7-9) on January 26 and 27.
