Lakehead’s indoor track team sends five of its members to the OUA championships, being held at York University this weekend (Fri-Sat).

Complete schedule and coverage information

Leading the team will be Kevin Tree in the 3000m race, who is currently ranked 5th in the OUA (and 11th in the CIS). Joining Tree in the 3000m is fellow Thunderwolf Sean Lewis, who is ranked 20th in the OUA.

Local running product Mason Quarrell rounds out the Lakehead men’s contingent, and will look to move up in the ranks in the 1500m race. He is currently ranked 17th in the OUA.

Two female athletes will attend for Lakehead, with Callie Roelfsema running in the 1500m and 3000m races, alongside her sophomore teammate Mary Strain. Roelfsema is ranked OUA 21st, and Strain 22nd in the 3000m.

Coach Kip Sigsworth:

“We’re sending a small but competitive group to the OUA meet this year. Tree should be in the mix at the front of the race in the fastest section of the 3000m and the rest of the athletes will be looking to do the same in their respective sections. The goal is always to run your best in the most important race of the year, and for most of these athletes, that’s the OUA champs.”
