The Lakehead Thunderwolves track team travelled to Toronto, ON for the OUA Track and Field championship this past weekend.

“It was a great meet for Lakehead,” said head coach Kip Sigsworth.

Off the podium, Lakehead athletes continued to set new personal bests. Tia Lampo set a new personal best with her 9th place finish in the women’s 600m (1:35.18), and finished 12th in the women’s 300m (41.26), while Colin Warwick set a new personal best with his 12th place finish in the men’s 1000m (2:31.25).

“I was really pleased with the way the athletes rose to the level of competition and competed their best when it matters most,” said Sigsworth,

Freshman Amy Stieh earned herself 3rd place finish in the women’s 300m (39.37) and 5th place finish in the 600m (1:32.72). Niko Dowhos set a new Lakehead record, finishing 3rd in the men’s 60m (6.87).

Both athletes will be moving on to compete in the USports Track and Field Championships in Edmonton.

“Amy and Niko are only in their first year so the future is bright for Lakehead,” said Sigsworth.
