Holiday Hoops: MBB off to Wesmen Classic

| Basketball (M), News

The Lakehead men’s basketball team (2-5) will be back in action over the holiday break as they head west to Winnipeg for the Wesmen Classic. This will be the 50th Wesmen Classic and is one of the oldest holiday tournaments in University sports. It is a tournament-style draw that will feature teams from the OUA and Canada West divisions.

The Thunderwolves will first face the University of Alberta Golden Bears who have shown to be a tough match up thus far. The Golden Bears are currently 10-0 and ranked 8th in the U Sports Top 10.

Coach Manny Furtado:

“This Winnipeg trip is a great chance to get games under our belt before our regular season starts in January. Opening up with the best team in the tournament in #8 Alberta, will be a tough challenge.”

Webcast coverage of the entire Wesmen Classic will be available via Canada West TV. Please note all game times are local Winnipeg time (Central).

The 50th Wesmen Classic will be held from December 28-30, 2016 inside the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Lakehead’s first game will be December 28th at 2:00pm CST
