The Lakehead Thunderwolves track team hosted LU vs The World track meet on Saturday, Jan 11 and fans got a sneak peek of what they can expect from the Lakehead track team this season.

“Today was a good start to the New Year,” said head coach Kip Sigsworth.

“It is good for athletes to see where they are at and what they need to focus on this week in practice before heading out of town next weekend.”

Lakehead’s Rebekkah Pyle won in the women’s 3000m (9:58.36) and 1000m (3:07.08).  Pyle’s 3000m time currently ranks her fourth in USports.

Freshmen Amy Steih won the women’s 300m (40.33), while freshman Niko Dowhos finished first in the men’s 200m (23.03) and second in the men’s 60m (7.02)

Adding to the Thunderwolves’ successful start was Colin Warwick, who won the men’s 3000m (9:19.18) and 1000m (2:44.24).

“Meets will get progressively more competitive as the season progresses and everyone will have to commit to doing the work to improve each week,” said Sigsworth.

The Thunderwolves will be on the road next weekend, competing at the University of St Thomas on Friday, Jan. 17 and the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday, Jan 18.
