| Basketball (M)

The Lakehead men’s basketball team and Head Coach Ryan Thomson announced today that Matt Erdman, Evan Woodland and Jamie Searle will be joining the men’s basketball coaching staff with Erdman and Woodland as the assistant coaches and Searle will be in charge of Player Development.

Erdman played basketball for the Thunderwolves from 2001-2005 and continued on to assistant from 2005-2013. He currently is the Blaze Director of Basketball and a teacher at the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board.

It’s great to be back with Lakehead. I’m excited to work with Ryan in his new role as he represents all that Lakehead University, Lakehead Athletics and the Thunder Bay community embodies,” says Matt Erdman

Coach Ryan Thomson explains, “Coach Erdman brings a wealth of basketball knowledge that will help the players and the program succeed. His ability to connect with players and build relationships is a huge asset for us going forward in addition to his on-court coaching abilities. I look forward to getting the chance to work together again”

Evan Woodland, also a former Thunderwolf from 2005-2007, was also announced as an assistant coach. Woodland played under Scott Morrison and then was an assistant, along side Erdman from 2007-2010.

Since then he has been pursuing his career here in Thunder Bay, and helped to developed the Active U program at Lakehead.

I’m looking forward to once again being part of the Thunderwolves team and excited to be working along side Ryan and Matt as they are 2 of the best and brightest basketball minds I have been around.” – Evan Woodland

Jamie Searle will also be helping out as the Player Development Coach. Searle spent five seasons at Lakehead and served as an assistant coach under Coach Scott Morrison in his last season with the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

Coach Searle and Coach Evan both have a love for the game and an ability to help unite teams. Having played and previously helped coach at Lakehead it’s good to have these two back in the mix” – Head Coach Ryan Thomson

The Thunderwolves also welcomes back Team Manager Dwayne Chong, who has been with the team for several seasons.

The Thunderwolves take on the Guelph Gryphons this evening in the Thunderdome at 8:00PM.
