The Lakehead Thunderwolves wrestling team is returning from the 2020 OUA Wrestling Championships highly decorated.
With Jessica Hong (48kg) and Madison Clayton (63kg) earning silver medals, and Riley Tubaro (55kg), Klara Patel (72kg) and Kara Nixon (82 kg) each with a bronze medal, the Thunderwolves women’s team came third overall with 43 points.
The Thunderwolves men’s team finished in fourth with 58 points, led by OUA gold medalist Macro Palermo (61kg). Also reaching the podium for the Thunderwolves was Hasan Ercan (54kg) with a second-place finish, and Mike Zale (65kg) and John Campbell (100kg) both with bronze medals.
Zale, a first-year wrestler for the Thunderwolves, also walked away with OUA Male Freshman of the Year.
The Thunderwolves will be sending nine athletes to the 2020 USports Wrestling Championship but will have the opportunity to send more once the wild card selection process takes place.
