Pyle to represent Thunderwolves track & field at USPORTS championships

| News, Track & Field

Lakehead’s track & field team is on the road this weekend for the USPORTS national championship in Winnipeg. The Thunderwolves are travelling light this time, as Lakehead will be represented solely by second-year dynamo Rebekkah Pyle.

“Rebekkah has had an excellent season setting personal bests in both the 1500m and 3km,” head coach Kip Sigsworth says. “The USPORTS champs are always a great meet, and I am excited to be heading to Winnipeg with her this weekend.”

This year’s event marks a return for Lakehead, as the Thunderwolves have missed the last two national championships. Kevin Tree made the most recent appearance in 2016.

Pyle heads to Winnipeg with wins in the 3km race at the LU vs the World and University of St. Thomas Invite meets. She most recently competed at the OUA championships, finishing 4th in the 3km and 6th in the 1500m. Pyle is currently ranked 10th in the 3km nationally.

“She has had a great year,” Sigsworth says, “and she has one more opportunity to mix it up with the best in the country and gain valuable race experience.”
