Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden is pleased to announce an exciting new head-coaching era as Ryan Thomson and Andrew Wilkins both accept head coaching positions with Lakehead University.

Coach Thomson became the interim head coach of the men’s basketball team in December and has done great things in his short time with the Thunderwolves and shown his ability to lead to program.

“We are super pleased to sign Ryan. He has shown great potential in his early career as a coach and I look forward to him bringing us to the level we need to be at,” said Athletics Director Tom Warden.

Thomson was a Thunderwolf from 2009-2013 and went on to assistant coach the ‘Wolves and work with the Maine Red Claws under former Lakehead Coach Scott Morrison.

“I’m honoured to have the chance to remain the men’s basketball coach here at Lakehead. I want to thank Tom for giving me the opportunity and having faith in my abilities and potential to continue to help the program improve and compete at a high level. I look forward to growing and improving alongside our student-athletes. Go Wolves!” – Coach Ryan Thomson

Coach Wilkins accepts his roll of the men’s hockey team after succeeding Bill McDonald who announced his retirement earlier in March. Wilkins was also a Thunderwolf and spent the last four years as the Thunderwolves assistant coach under McDonald.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead Thunderwolves Hockey”, explains Coach Wilkins. “I have great passion for the program and look forward to the challenge.”
