Thunderwolves Cross Country Announces First Recruit for the 2018/19 Season

| Cross Country

Coach Kip Sigsworth and the Lakehead Cross Country program has announced the commitment of Jonathan Stoppa of Madawaska Valley High School (Barry’s Bay) for the 2018/19 season.

Jonathan explains, “I chose Lakehead because the team and the university were very intimate, inviting and friendly. I am looking forward to developing even further as an athlete and as a person. I am excited to be running at the university level with some high-level athletes and being able to train among some fine athletes and with some great coaching.”

Stoppa is a 2015 National Cross Country Youth Champion and this year placed 4th at the 2017 OFSAA Cross Country Running Championships. He also finished 13th at the National Junior Cross Country Championships and has a personal best of 4:00.37 in the 1500m and 8:46.42 in the 3000m.

Coach Kip Sigsworth:

“We are super excited that Jonathan has chosen Lakehead to pursue his post-secondary education! He has been on our radar for a number of years and we feel he is someone who will really excel in our program. Jonathan is one of the top recruits coming out of Ontario High Schools this year as proven by his 4th place OFSAA finish and he has had a lot of success at the Junior level. We feel he still has lots of room to grow and improve at the University level. He is a mature, hard working young man who will have an immediate positive impact on the culture of our team.”

Stoppa will be studying Kinesiology in the fall.
