Thunderwolves runners compete at USPORTS cross-country championships

| Cross Country, News

Two Thunderwolves athletes competed at the USPORTS cross-country running championships this past weekend. Rebekkah Pyle and Jonathan Stoppa made the trip to Kingston to represent Lakehead on the cold and windy day, following their successful outings at OUA championships two weeks ago.

“It was a rough day for Jonathan,” Thunderwolves head coach Kip Sigsworth said. Stoppa finished 109th. “But he is young, and will grow from this experience,” Sigsworth continued. “He’ll be better next time.

Rebekkah Pyle finished 25th, a marked improvement upon her 57th place last year. “It was a solid day for Rebekkah,” Sigsworth said. “She is still very young in the sport and learning how to race at this level—she got caught in the back of the pack off the start and expended a lot of energy in the first half of the race moving up through the field. But she ran tough, and gave it all she had.”

Pyle, Stoppa, and five other Thunderwolves runners will next compete at racing club nationals in two weeks, again in Kingston.
