Thunderwolves women’s volleyball team loses last match of 2018 to Guelph

| News, Volleyball (W)

Lakehead’s women’s volleyball team dropped their second straight match to the Guelph Gryphon, losing in three straight sets Saturday night at the Thunderdome.

“It was a tough night tonight,” Thunderwolves head coach Craig Barclay said. “We struggled offensively tonight and couldn’t find our rhythm in passing.”

Lakehead started slowly, managing only 16 points in the first set. The Thunderwolves finished with a hitting percentage of .108 to Guelph’s .260.

“Guelph played a good game but we gave them too many points,” Barclay said. Lakehead had 32 total errors in the match. The Thunderwolves were led by Rheanna Geisel, who knocked down 18 kills and finished with 19 total points. Guelph saw seven different players contribute kills.

The loss marks the end of the Thunderwolves volleyball team’s 2018. Lakehead will next see action at Brock on January 18th, 2019, with additional games against Windsor on both the 19th and 20th following.

“It’s time to get back to the simple skills and prep for next semester,” Barclay said.
