Track & field team claims 4 top-15 finishes at OUA championships, Pyle qualifies for USPORTS champs

| News, Track & Field

Lakehead’s track & field travelled to Toronto this weekend to compete in the OUA championships hosted by York University. The Thunderwolves picked up 4 top-15 finishes, including a personal best. Lakehead will send one qualifying athlete to the USPORTS national championships in Winnipeg in two weeks.

“I am proud of how the team competed this weekend,” Lakehead coach Kip Sigsworth said. “It was our best meet of the year, which is what you want to see at the OUA Champs.”

Thunderwolves results include Rebekkah Pyle finishing 4th in the 3000m with a time of 9:53.42 and 6th in the 1500m in 4:41.01, a new personal best set on her birthday. Pyle qualified for the USPORTS Championships.

“Rebekkah was great this weekend,” Sigsworth said. “It is exciting to see how far see has come in the last two years. For her to be in the mix for a medal is a testament to all the hard work she has put in.”

Additionally, Will McDonough won the 1st section of the 1000m and finished 11th overall with a time of 2:30.82. Colin Warwick finished 15th in the 1000m with a time of 2:32.16.

“We are a young team,” Sigsworth said, “and I am excited to see what the future holds.”
