Track & Field team heads to American Midwest for a pair of weekend meets

| News, Track & Field

Lakehead’s track & field team will compete in two meets away from Thunder Bay this weekend. The squad will be crossing the border for the St. Thomas invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, and the Twin Ports Invitation in Superior, Wisconsin on Saturday. These will be the first official meets of year, following the intersquad meet held two weeks ago.

“This will be a fun weekend and a good test of where we are at right now,” Thunderwolves head coach Kip Sigsworth says. “We are bringing the whole roster and the goal this weekend is to compete and learn.”

The St. Thomas Invitational on Friday night will showcase Thunderwolves athletes in individual events, while the Twin Ports Invitational on Saturday will see them working in relays. The weekend in the American Midwest provides an opportunity for Thunderwolves athletes to fine tune race tactics before moving into more competitive meets over the next month.

“Athletes will get multiple chances to race, and Saturday’s meet will be a rare opportunity for them to team up and run a variety of relay distances they don’t normally get a chance to run,” Sigsworth says.
