Track and Field: Thunderwolves run at Bison Classic and York Open

The Lakehead track team had athletes compete in both the Bison Classic and York Open this past weekend.

Heather Maxfield competed in the Bison Classic where she placed 3rd in the women’s 600m with a time of 1:37.

Joe McDonough ran in the men’s 600 meter race where he placed 5th overall. Derek Patterson, Josh Stovel and Connor Macintosh all ran in both the 1500m and 3000m race.

Coach Sigsworth:

“Good weekend overall.  After a sub par Friday night at the meet I was proud of the way the athletes battled back and competed hard on Saturday.  Our three first years guys set the tone on Saturday – all running personal bests in the 1500m but more importantly running tough.  It is great to see Heather Maxfield back on the track after 2 plus years of injuries and improving each week. I am excited to see what she can do the rest of the season.”

Kayla Gallo also raced at the York Open this weekend where she ran a personal best, placing first in the 3000m. Gallo also finished 8th in the 1500m with a time of 4:25, also a personal best time.

“Kayla has been away the last three weeks doing a placement as part of her medical degree but she has been able to get her training in and it paid off this past weekend.  Great to see her run a break through race in the 3000m.” – Coach Sigsworth
