Kevin Tree received the news on Wednesday that he will represent the Canadian Cross Country Running team at two international races in 2015.

“I was a little in disbelief when the news arrived,” said Kevin on Wednesday. “It’s always been a goal of mine to make a national team, but I didn’t expect to get there in my third year at Lakehead.”

The Canadian team will competing at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships on February 22 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Following that, Kevin will suit up for Canada once more at the World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China on March 28.

Tree is the first Lakehead runner in history to make the Canadian national team. He earned the right to be considered for the national running squad after placing 7th at the Canadian Cross Country Championships in Vancouver last weekend.

Lakehead coach Kip Sigsworth exclaimed, “This is huge for Kevin and Lakehead Cross Country Running as a program. Kevin has put in a tremendous amount of work over the last two and a half years and it is great to see it paying off.”
